Troubadour Overhaul 2017

Troubadour has been cruising around, or sitting in, Grenada for about five years since our last overhaul, so it was time for a little TLC. First and foremost was getting her to the boatyard for some bottom paint.

This was about three weeks after scraping clean, not much anti-fouling action left in this paint.
Much better!
While I was painting, Linda was busy replacing the fabric upon which the Caribbean sun had taken a toll.
New sailbag to protect our mainsail from the sun
New chaps to protect the dinghy. The dinghy also got some professional attention, replacing a patch and re-gluing the rubrail where it was coming loose.

Other items that were ready for some updating:

  • Cockpit chartplotter was replaced as the LCD screen had faded until it was unreadable
  • Stereo adapter for Sirius replaced as it had failed
  • Replaced anchor chain which had lost most of its galvanizing and the rusty links were looking a bit thin
  • Replaced raw water impeller in the main engine. The engine has run warm for quite a while, so a new heat exchanger is in the works.
  • New foam mattress for main cabin
  • Re-greased the auto-pitching propeller blades and replaced the zinc
  • The fold down swim step got some fiberglass reinforcement where cracks were starting to appear, and just needs primer and paint to match the boat paint from 2012.
